ABOUT

We are PlayDates. We are Bec and Mere Lewis; sisters, flatmates, actors and best friends.

Mere originally set up PlayDates when working for a creative startup called FlairBox. PlayDates provides writers with the opportunity to workshop their writing by facilitating a table read and discussion.
Table read : an occasion when actors read the script of a film, television programme, play etc. together, as a way to develop the script further.

Hearing your work read aloud by people who can bring it to life is a huge part of the script development process. PlayDates organises table reads, both in-person and online for audiences, to provide writers with that integral stepping stone.

Our core values are equality, accessibility and play. We are passionate about bridging the gaps between all levels of experience and bringing the possibility of script development where it might have been out of reach for some. The idea of feedback can be incredibly daunting which is why fun and excitement will always be at the heart of what we do. Too many excellent scripts have been thrown away due to financial barriers, and the exhaustion that our gate kept industry constantly brings. We're here to bring those stories a step closer to being heard.

Playdates is a voluntary and unofficial organisation.  We're just here for the vibes.
